Communicating Across Cultures: Getting Along and Getting Things Done in the Multicultural Business Environment

About the Session

Have you ever wondered to what degree cross-cultural issues play a role in development areas for a leader? Dr. Lilian Abrams has extensive experience in working effectively with different cultures in the workplace. She will present cross-cultural models that can help you also understand and work more effectively with people from different national cultures. She will highlight the models which she has found to be most useful in her own work. She will also describe practical “tales from the field” that illustrate the ways one can apply this knowledge, as she has in her executive coaching work. She will facilitate open-table discussion for participants to share their experience and learning as well.

In a collegial, non-promotional environment we will: examine and discuss the exigencies and realities of developing and working with a workforce whose primary cultural background is multicultural/not purely US-based.

About the Presenter

Dr. Lilian Abrams has consulted to corporate and other organizations for 20+ years, focusing on Executive Coaching, OD, Leadership Development, Applied Research, and Instructional Design and Delivery. She thrives on work with executives who love to grow and achieve yet more – high-potentials as well as "the tough ones”! She works with senior and lower-level executives and managers across all functions, and works particularly well with strongly analytical leaders (i.e., IT, R&D, Finance, Engineering, etc.)

Lilian earned her Ph.D. and MBA from The Claremont Graduate University, and a BA in Psychology from UCLA (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa.) One of her long-standing interests - and dissertation subject - is the effects of personal values on work behavior in organizational life.
