Blackberry laughed at the iPhone when it first came out - calling it a toy. Newspapers ignored digital media until they lost half their advertisers. Bookstores rolled their eyes at Amazon.com until it was too late to see the peril. It’s a timeless story. When we humans do well, we get complacent - we don’t see our blind spots.
As Learning Leaders, we have paid attention. We paid attention when the e-learning revolution began. We paid attention to m-learning, learning styles, generational differences, social media, informal learning, and the four levels of evaluation. We’ve paid attention to our business stakeholders. We’ve worked to get a seat at the table. But have we done enough? Have we paid attention to all the right things?

About the Presenter
Will Thalheimer is a learning expert, researcher, instructional designer, speaker, and writer. Dr. Thalheimer has worked in the learning-and-performance field since 1985. He was the project manager for the first commercially-viable computer-based leadership simulation, The Complete Manager, back in 1986. He was project manager and simulation architect for Classroom, Inc., building simulations to teach at-risk high-school students. In 1998, Dr. Thalheimer founded Work-Learning Research to bridge the gap between research and practice, to compile research on learning, and disseminate research findings. His clients have included giant multinationals, e-learning companies, government agencies, and institutions of higher learning. He makes his research-to-practice reports available for free on the Work-Learning Research Catalog (www.work-learning.com/catalog.html). He also shares his wisdom and experience through keynote addresses, conference presentations, published articles, Twitter (@WillWorkLearn), and through his industry-leading blog (www.WillAtWorkLearning.com).

Will holds a BA from the Pennsylvania State University, an MBA from Drexel University, and a PhD in Educational Psychology: Human Learning and Cognition from Columbia University. He lives in Somerville, Massachusetts, with his wife, daughter, and shepherd mix.
