Back by popular demand is the acclaimed Cracker Barrel event hosted by our Northern New Jersey ATD Executive Advisory Council (EAC).   This is your chance to spend time with learning leaders from Northern New Jersey companies and participate with them in discussions on key learning and development challenges in an interactive “round-table” discussion format. You will have the chance to participate in four topic sessions.

Round Table Topics

Coaching:  The Art of Empowering Questions
Understanding the value of asking questions can take your performance from good to extraordinary. Questions can help you learn, grow, connect with the right people, improve your relationships and unleash greater creativity.  In this session we will explore Coaching from the perspective of empowering questions.  Discussion topics include:

  • What is the difference between Coaching and Consulting?
  • What are empowering questions and what’s the benefit of using them?
  • How can you use empowering questions to manage difficult coaching situations?
  • What are the benefits of using empowering questions to develop others?
  • How can you use empowering questions to connect with people and build strategic relationships?

The Internal and External Consultant:
Skills, Opportunities, and Challenges

Professionals from CIT Group, Tata and Scotwork (NA) Inc. will share stories and ask questions from the participants around consulting.  Questions will be around the skills and tools to be effective.  In this short dialogue, we will explore if the skills and tools needed are the same or different whether you are internal or external.  We will also explore what we can learn from each other.  What are the successes as consultants and what are the challenges?  To that end we are exploring as internal or external consultants, how can we become better business advisors?

Virtual Training, Pro's and Con's.
We’ll kick off our Technology Topic with a short presentation and discussion on Virtual Training. Virtual Training or “synchronous distance learning” is generally live, instructor led, training with a virtual audience linked by a web enabled technology which allows audio and visual interaction between instructor(s) and participants.  The benefits include the cost savings on travel and lodging and greater availability for participation.  The drawbacks include lack of face-to-face interaction and limited level of engagement.  As time allows, further discussion will touch on e-learning, mobile apps, CBT and blended learning.

Leadership Development Based on Workforce Transformation
Interactive discussion based on the evolution of leadership development with a focus on conducting leader learning at all levels of the organization.  There is a need to embrace changes in the work environment and a need to enhance a leadership learning culture. Future leaders will optimize organizational successes based on aggressive strategy execution, stronger collaboration as well as relationships, and on driving behavioral changes.

Mindfulness in the Workplace:
What is Mindfulness, and Why Does It Matter?

We allow ourselves to be carried away by our pursuit to do more in the 24/7 global world we live and work in; the constant demand of emails, social media and incessant distractions; often missing or not noticing the innovation and creativity around us.   In the face of complexity and overwhelm, what we need is a new set of inner strengths.  Learn what being Mindful means and how it can make a difference.

Experience the power of Mindfulness practices.   Explore how Mindfulness could support efforts in your organization.  Talk with business leaders who have introduced Mindfulness into the workplace.   Learn about the challenges and responses from associates.  Discuss ways that you too, can make this happen.
